Located in the Aravali Hills, Alwar district of the Rajasthan state, Sariska Tiger Reserve is one of the prominent tiger reserves of India. Spread across an area of 866 sq. km, the reserve was established in the year of 1978. The notification to declare it as a national park came in the year of 1982. For commuting within the reserve, tourists can opt for jeeps.

There are various sightseeing options as well. Tourists can visit the medieval temples of Garh-Rajor with a history dating back to 10th and 11th centuries. On the hill top at Kankwari there is a 17th century castle which offers amazing view to the visitors.

Flora @ Sariska Tiger Reserve

The main kinds of forests found here are Tropical Dry Deciduous forest and Tropical Thorn forest. Some of the common species grown here are Anogeissus pendula, Boswellia serrata, Lannea coromandelica, Acacia Catechu, Bamboo, Butea monosperma, Zizyphus spp., Terminalia arjuna, Commiphora wightii, Sterculia urens, Emblica officinalis, Baher, Terminalia bellerica, etc.

Fauna @ Sariska Tiger Reserve

Common spotted animals at the reserve are Leopard, Caracal, Rusty Spotted Cat, Jungle Cat, Four-horned Antelope, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Wild Boar, Blue Bull, Jackal, Hyena etc. along with the tigers.

There is a rich avian fauna as well offering good opportunities for bird watching. Some of the birds are Black-rumped Flameback, Great Indian Horned Owl, Yellow-footed Green Pigeon, Grey Francolin, Painted Stork, Ibis, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Pied Kingfisher, White-throated Kingfisher, quail, Red-wattled Lapwing, Common Sandgrouse, Spoonbill, Spotted Dove, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Stone Curlew, Rufous Treepie, Ring Dove, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Crested Serpent Eagle, etc.

The best time to visit the reserve is during the months of November to June.

Reaching Sariska Tiger Reserve

  • By air: The nearest airport to the reserve is Jaipur which is 108 km away. It is well connected to cities like Delhi, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Kota and Ahmedabad.
  • By rail: The nearest railway head is at Alwar which is at a distance of 35 km. There are trains running from nearby cities. For instance, tourists can reach within 3 hours from delhi via Shatabdi Express and the Pink City Express.
  • By road: Tourists can get various taxis and buses from Alwar to Sariska which lies on the old Delhi-Jaipur route. There are regular buses running from Delhi, Jaipur and Alwar.
