The dress is generally colorful. Females wear long skirts, ghaghri, kurtas, salwars, choli and red head scarves. The dressing style reflects both modern and traditional styles.
Hindus are the predominant population. The main sections of Hindus are Brahmins, Rathis, Kolis and Kannets. The tribal populations comprise Gaddis, Kinnaurs, Gujjars, Pandwals and Lahaulis.The Dom tribes are experts in making bamboo furniture. Hindi and Pahari are the main languages.
CultureDhoti, Kurta, coat waist coat, turban are the principal items of dress worn usually. Lay bricks and slate roofs are characteristic of the local houses. In hilly areas, timber roofs are common in Himachal Pradesh. The tribal have two storied houses. The ground floor of the tribal house is used to rear cattles and the upper storey is used to live in.
Impressive carpets, metal ware, woodwork, and paintings are characteristic. Pashmina shawls of the state are in demand all over the nation and elsewhere.
Dances have religious themes mostly. Folk music is special to the region.
