Bondla wildlife Sanctuary

Bondla wildlife Sanctuary is fity two kilometers off Panaji, and 38 kilometers from Margao is on the border of Ponda and Sanguem. This 80 square kilometers sanctuary is at the foot the Western Ghats. Though the smallest wildlife sanctuary in Goa it is home to a number of animals of interest as sambar, gaur, wild boar, deer, snake, jackals, monkeys etc. The possibly come here from Karnataka. The sanctuary also has preserved rose garden, deer park and zoo with tigers, lions and crocodiles.

Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary

Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is situated on the Charao island at the confluence of Mandovi and Mapusa rivers. The mangrove forest harbors jackals, flying foxes, birds, crocodiles etc. The place is best visited on a motorbike as public transport is scarce. This can be reached by motorboat from Ribandar. This place has escaped the scathes of modernization and remains here retaining its natural scenic beauty.

The Mandovi Zuari Wildlife Sanctuary

Mangrove swamps characterize the spot. Rare fish species, jackals, crocodiles, snakes etc are found in the area.

Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuaries

Cotigao Wildlife sanctuaries is 12 kilometers from Palolem. This is the fourth wild life sanctuary and is about 106square kilometers in size. The usual timing is 9.30 to 5.30 in the evening. With permission one may stay in a small house in the sanctuary.

The Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary

The Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary is in Ponda, in eastern Goa. Eastern Ghats and Karnataka are the boundaries. This is about 240 square kilometers of tropical forest and patches of grassy lands. The animals roam in the sanctuary and they could be spotted if you spend sometime in the forest. Hiking boots are needed for the trip. You can also see the Dudhdagar waterfalls approachable from Margao or Vaso.
